Over the last few weeks I’ve been working with some Year 7 pupils from our local comprehensive, Ferndale Community School, to develop a digital leader council. All the pupils involved had previously been digital leaders when they were at our school and were really enthusiastic about starting their own group in their new school. In addition, the head teacher saw my presentation at a RCT/Microsoft partnership showcase for secondary schools and was really keen for us to do some work together.
Today I took our Year 5/6 digital leaders to share the work they’ve been doing with the teachers Ferndale Community School, alongside the Year 7 pupils. I was so proud of how clearly they explained the role of a digital leader and how they shared their vision for the future. One child said that being a digital leader improved his confidence and communication skills. Another pupil said how pleased she was to share her experiences of coding on Microsoft Schools’ Blog. They all spoke with confidence and their passion for ICT was amazing.
